Såstaholm Herrgård is a place with a rich history going back many centuries. The farm's name, Såsta, is one of the oldest in Täby and dates back to the first century AD. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the land here was used by farmers. In 1903, German businessman Max Sievert purchased Såsta Gård with the vision of transforming it into a mansion for his family's summer residence. Over the coming years, Såsta Gård was transformed into an idyllic summer enclave for Sievert and his loved ones.
After Max Sievert's death, the mansion was subject to a new transfer of ownership. In 1918, the property was sold to the Swedish Theater Association, which had long been looking for a place where retired actors could spend their old age in a dignified environment. This transformation of Såsta Gård into a retirement home was a significant moment in the world of theater.
The retirement home, named Höstsol, was inaugurated in 1918 and was a warm and loving place for old actors and actresses until 1979. During this time, Höstsol welcomed some of the most prominent names in theater, including Gustav VI Adolf, Karl Gerhard, Zarah Leander and many others. It was a place where the actors' long and successful careers ended with dignity and community.
After serving as an important home for actors for over 60 years, Höstsol was sold to a private individual in 1979. During its existence, 250 actors had called Höstsol their home and left an indelible mark on the history of the place.
